Fishing Rod Type depends on the kind of fishing method we use and any type of fish we target during fishing. There are multiple types of fishing rods. Mainly there are 3 different types of fishing rods explained: 1-piece rods, 2 Piece rods, Travel rods (3 to 4 Piece Rods), and Telescopic Rods. The selection of fishing rod types also depends on the spot we are targeting to catch fish like fishing from shore, from the boat, offshore, surf, Freshwater, or Saltwater. All types of fishing rods are having different specifications like power, action, and length. There are mainly these types of Fishing Rods used at current times, like Spinning rods, Baitcasting rods, Fly rods, Surf rods, Ice Fishing rods, Telescopic rods, popping rods,s and jigging rods.
Following are some common Types of Fishing Rods
Spinning Rod
Spinning types of fishing rods are versatile types of fishing rods. They are very easy and convenient and can be used for a variety of fish and many fishing techniques. The length of the spinning rod is 6ft to 10ft but mostly 8ft to 10ft are commonly used.
Baitcasting Rod
Baitcasting types of fishing rods are used for more advanced fishing techniques, such as targeting large fish and making accurate casts. They require a bit more skill to use but offer more control and accuracy.
Fly Rod
Fly types of fishing rods are designed for fly fishing, a technique that involves casting a lightweight fly or lure that imitates insects or other small prey. They are typically longer and lighter than other types of rods.
Surf Rod
Surf types of fishing rods are designed for surf fishing, which involves casting from the beach or a pier into the ocean. They are longer and heavier than other types of rods and are designed to handle the rough conditions of the surf.
Ice Fishing Rod
Ice fishing types of fishing rods are designed for fishing through holes in the ice and are typically shorter and more sensitive than other types of rods.
Telescopic Rod
Telescopic rods are designed to collapse down into a smaller size for easy transportation. They are a popular choice for traveling anglers or those with limited storage space.
Trolling Rod
Trolling rods are used for fishing from a moving boat and are designed to handle heavy lures and large fish. They are typically shorter and sturdier than other types of rods.
Popping Rod
Popping rods are butt joint powerful rods, designed to tackle monsters as popping fishing usually hooks monsters. The popping rod is a 2 piece rod unlike spinning it’s having heavy power and fast action which gives confidence to the angler for good handling of a fight with fish. Mainly popping rods are made in 8 to 8.6 ft lengths. which is appropriate also and gives the ability to cast fast and cast big poppers.
Jigging Rod
Like popping rods jigging rods are also very strong rods for handling monsters. Jigging rods are also mostly butt joint rods having heavy power and slow action to give more flexibility to jigging under the boat. As we mostly do vertical jigging from boats we need to have good backbone power in jigging rods.
Carp Rod
For carp fishing, we need to consider carp fishing rods if we are serious about carp fishing to the pro level. Beginners can start carp fishing from any spinning budget rods if they are not targeting big carp. Otherwise, carp anglers should go for carp rods only as these carp rods are specifically designed for Casting big and heavy feeder bait balls to longer distances. Carp rods are having very good lengths of 10 to 14 ft mostly and good backbone blank power for handling good size carp fish.
